More About Valerie
While working at San Pedro Street Elementary school in Los Angeles, she partnered with another special ed. teacher and created fund raising events and found local partners to deliver the goods overseas to the affected regions. For those affected by the earthquake in Haiti in 2010, Typhoon Yolanda which devastated part of the Philippines in 2013, and the Nepal earthquake in 2016, Valerie collected goods that could be shipped overseas, items that included canned foods, non-perishable items, baby formula, tarps, diapers, and first aid kits as disaster relief for those affected by these events. With the assistance of her husband Kai, all the goods that were packaged into boxes at their home, and with his pick-up truck they would deliver them to the local partners in Los Angeles who would transport these items overseas. Service to the community and those affected by tragedy has always been important to the two of them. During the holidays they would volunteer to serve food to the homeless, and they would participate in helping to raise funds for local charities.
